With a comprehensive continuum of care, we can meet young people where they are on their healing journeys and provide them with services and resources that promote lasting wellness. Our treatment programs for teens are available for young people who are struggling with a variety of mental health concerns as well as co-occurring addictions.
Located in Springfield, Missouri, we accept individuals from our local community and across the country. Our acute hospital is in downtown Springfield, and our primary residential teen treatment center is located just 2 miles southwest of the acute campus. We want our patients and residents to feel at ease while they are in our care, which is why we designed our mental health facilities for teens to include all the comforts of home and plenty of recreational space.
Our downtown location features an updated gymnasium, two outdoor areas that have ample room for recreational activities, a swimming pool, and a cafeteria. At our inpatient treatment center for teens, rooms are separated into units, which vary in capacity from 10-22 beds. Our 60-bed residential teen treatment center offers multiple outdoor recreational areas, a state-of-the-art gymnasium, a music room, and a cafeteria.
We strive to provide an exceptional treatment experience for each teen we serve, and we are committed to maintaining healing environments that foster respect and dignity. At our mental health treatment centers for teens, young people in our care can engage in services that are individualized, age-appropriate, and delivered with the utmost care and compassion.
Teen Mental Health Treatment Age-Appropriate Programming
Teens today face unprecedented challenges. Not only are young people at a stage of significant social, emotional, and intellectual development, but they are exposed to unique societal pressures. These complex challenges can have a devastating impact on teen mental health.
At Lakeland Behavioral Health System, we recognize the need for effective mental health programs for teens, which is why we take a developmentally appropriate approach when providing care for young people. Our teen treatment programs are trauma-focused and cognitive-based because we believe that helping young people process traumatic experiences is essential to their long-term success. Through trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), teens can address emotional and behavioral concerns that may have been caused by traumatic events and work to overcome them.
We honor the individuality of each teen in our care by providing them with programming that reflects their personal needs. Before admission, each patient or resident participates in an evaluation with our team to determine their diagnosis and certain elements of their care. We review their mental and physical health history and goals for treatment to select the therapeutic modalities that can help them achieve optimal outcomes.
Depending on a teen’s individual needs, their treatment plan can include:
- Medical care for minor concerns
- Medication management services
- Individual therapy
- Family counseling
- Experiential therapies such as recreational, art, music, and pet therapies
Additionally, patients and residents attend multiple group therapy sessions each day. Led by licensed professionals, group sessions cover an array of topics, such as life skills, social skills, coping, anger management, boundaries, self-image, and trauma. Group therapy is an exceptionally beneficial therapeutic tool for young people because it can help them enhance communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and social functioning.
Levels of Care Offered at Our Mental Health Treatment Centers for Teens
At our mental health facilities for teens, we offer a range of programs to meet the evolving needs of our patients. As young people progress through treatment, our goal is to provide care that supports them in each phase of healing.
Our teen mental health programs include inpatient treatment, residential care, and intensive outpatient services. Each program is separated by gender and age to ensure that we can provide our patients and residents with the focused care they deserve. The length of stay in our treatment programs for teens is determined on a case-by-case basis and depends on the level of care and needs of the individual.
The inpatient program is a short-term teen treatment program that is designed to help young people in crisis stabilize. Patients receive round-the-clock monitoring and intensive care to help them lay the groundwork for lasting healing.
At our residential treatment center for teens, we provide live-in care for young people who require 24/7 supervision to achieve their treatment goals. Residential care is typically offered for teens ages 13-18, although in some cases, residents may be approved to stay in the program up to age 21. Young people may enter this teen treatment program directly or as a step-down level of care from our inpatient setting.
In addition to inpatient and residential services, we offer outpatient services for teens who need less restrictive therapeutic support. Our EVOLVE intensive outpatient program (IOP) accepts teens who are suffering from anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress disorder. EVOLVE IOP patients can take part in structured programming that is designed to help them successfully reintegrate into their communities. The IOP is available for those who are stepping down from a higher level of care as well as those who have not completed prior teen mental health programming.
Our team understands that each young person heals at their own pace. When your loved one engages in programming at our teen treatment center, we will encourage them to play an active part in their wellness journey and support their continued progress.

Continuing Care After a Treatment Program for Teens
At our teen treatment center, young people can engage in transformative care and build a solid foundation for healing. But treatment is just the first step of a person’s journey to long-term well-being. To help young people build on the progress they make in our teen treatment programs, we provide them with detailed aftercare plans.
Continuity of care is very important to our team. We are dedicated to ensuring that our patients and residents have access to the ongoing support they need, regardless of their location. Through follow-up services with our outpatient therapists, counselors, and providers, those in our care can continue to achieve milestones after their time in our teen treatment program ends.
At our mental health treatment centers for teens, aftercare planning begins on the day of admission. Our team continually monitors the progress of each patient and adjusts their plan as needed along the way. We take a collaborative approach to creating discharge plans and encourage patients and residents as well as their families to play an active role in the process.
Aftercare plans can incorporate a variety of follow-up therapies and resources, including individual therapy, family therapy, and medication management. In some cases, young people may receive a referral to a lower level of care or another treatment center for teens.
